Resistance measurements in pulsed magnetic fields up to 55 T as well as a first-principles DFT calculation of the Fermi surface for the organic metal (TSeT)2Cl have been performed to investigate its metal - semimetal phase transition. The results obtained are in line with the imperfect nesting that can be inferred from both the observed metallic behavior of the resistivity at low temperature and the previously reported Shubnikov - de Haas oscillations due to small carrier pockets. The DFT study points out the possibility that the LUMO bands of the TSeT donor may interact with the HOMO ones and modify the shape of the Fermi surface under pressure.

De Haas-van Alphen oscillations are studied for Fermi surfaces (FS) illustrating the model proposed by Pippard in the early sixties, namely the linear chain of orbits coupled by magnetic breakdown. This FS topology is relevant to many multiband quasi-two-dimensional (q-2D) organic metals such as <$E kappa -( roman {BEDT~-~TTF) sub 2 Cu(NCS) sub 2}> and <$E theta -( roman {BEDT~-~TTF) sub 4 CoBr sub 4 (C sub 6 H sub 4 Cl sub 2 )}> which are considered in detail. Whereas the Lifshits - Kosevich model only involves a first order development of field- and temperature-dependent damping factors, second order terms may have significant contribution to the Fourier components amplitude for such q-2D systems at high magnetic field and low temperature. The strength of these second order terms depends on the relative value of the involved damping factors, which are in turns strongly dependent on parameters such as the magnetic breakdown field, effective masses and, most of all, effective Lande factors. In addition, the influence of field-dependent Onsager phase factors on the oscillation spectra is considered.

Magnetic torque and magnetoresistance of the quasi-two-dimensional charge transfer salt <$E roman {beta symbol Т -(ET) sub 4 (H sub 3 O)[Fe(C sub 2 O sub 4 ) sub 3 ]~cdot~C sub 6 H sub 4 Cl sub 2}> have been investigated in pulsed magnetic fields of up to 55 T. At variance with de Haas - van Alphen oscillations, Shubnikov - de Haas oscillations are observed up to temperatures as high as 32 K at ambient pressure despite a significant thermal damping in the low-temperature range. This feature, observed under applied pressure as well, is interpreted on the basis of the coexistence of a closed orbit and a quantum interference path with the same cross section.

Band structure calculations relevant to bis-ethylenedithio-tetrathiafulvalene-based charge transfer salts containing tris(oxalato)metallate anions, with generic formula (BEDT-TTF)4A[M(C2O4)3] x Solv, where A is a mo-novalent anion, M is a trivalent cation and Solv is a solvent, suggest that their Fermi surface is liable to achieve networks of compensated orbits coupled by magnetic breakdown. Even though this picture accounts for quantum oscillations spectra of a number of these compounds, puzzling results can be noticed in several cases, pointing to the possibility of Fermi surface reconstruction at low temperature.

Tunneling amplitude through magnetic breakdown (MB) gap is considered for two-bands Fermi surfaces illustrated in many organic metals. In particular, the S-matrix associated to the wave function transmission through the MB gap for the relevant class of differential equations is the main object allowing the determination of tunneling probabilities and phases. The calculated transmission coefficients include a field-dependent Onsager phase. As a result, quantum oscillations are not periodic in 1/B for finite magnetic breakdown gap. Exact and approximate methods are proposed for computing ratio amplitudes of the wave function in interacting two-band models.
